Transmission Line Design Engineer

Responsible for providing design packages for updates to existing equipment or new equipment. Primary focus will be to work with Drafters, Surveying, Protection, Construction, Project Management, Real Estate, Substation Engineering, Customers, and other stakeholders to create engineering designs that adhere to company standards and procedures.

Key job responsibilities:

– Responsible for adhering and encouraging Safety, Environmental Stewardship, Integrity, and Leadership with all employees and customers.

– Ensure Safety is built into each design package and ensure no design traps exist.

– Provide technical guidance to the Scoping and Estimating teams to assist with project requirements and timeline.

– Develop detailed engineering design packages for foundations, structural steel, grounding, lightning protection, and plan and profile drawings.

– Coordinate design with Substation Engineers to ensure all material is accounted for and point of demarcation is clearly identified.

– Adhere to all NERC and NESC clearance requirements.

– Create equipment bill of material and associated specifications.

– Create drawings and design packages for permit submission.

– Work closely with vendors and consulting firms to acquire and develop material specifications for projects.

– Adhere to company Engineering Standards and Procedures with all designs.

– Work closely with project sponsor to ensure Facility Ratings and requirements are clearly identified in the project scope document.

– Work closely with Project Management and other departments to ensure design packages are delivered on-time and that scope changes are agreed to by all stakeholders.

– Ensure changes to project budget are clearly communicated to the project team.

– Provide technical support to vendors for drawing reviews, testing, and technical details.

– Assist construction staff with field changes and ensure documentation of changes is maintained.

– Review as left redline documents to ensure project was built as designed and update appropriate databases.

Qualifications:

– Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE), Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology with a Professional Engineer (PE) license.

– Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus.

– A minimum of 1 year of experience is required.

– Outstanding verbal and written communication skills are a must for this position.

– Ability to analyze data and easily explain complex issue.

– Able to read and understand wiring diagrams, functional diagrams, single/three-line diagrams, and schematics.

– Experience with AutoCAD, PLS-Pole, and PLS-CADD is preferred.

– Experience with MS Word, MS Project, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel are a required.

– Works well in team environment and leads by example.

– Ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks.
